Some race results are included below but also see Results tab for results for Uckfield Runners in recent races.

Another very nice Parkrun today at Bedgebury. Graham West, Peter West, Tara Twyman, Sam kedwards, Sara Patience, Lauren Sordilis, Aimee Payne and Lorraine West as well as my  Matthew West walking today. Super location, the rain held off for the run and great cakes by the lake afterwards.  Some notable results: well done to Lauren Scordilis finishing over 4min quicker than in June, Lorraine West over 2.5 min quicker and Sara Patience nearly 2min quicker: and Tara Twyman who ran under 30min pushing a double buggy. Also some good finsihing position with Graham West 1st VM55 and 2dn highest age %, Peter West 1st M25 and Samantha Kedwards 2nd VW40.  Alos Aimee Payne completing her first Parkrun, Aimee welcome to the Uckfield Runner Parkrunners.  Next week is Eastbourne Parkrun.

As part of our on tour parkruns 9 of us run the Hove Prom Parkrun today.  Well done to Sara Patience with a PB breaking 30 mins with and official time of 29:58 (29:52 on watch); great running.  Also running Graham West (1st VM55), Sam Kedwards, Charlotte Munro, Jan Groom, Tosca Anstis, Michael Hill, Lauren Scordilis and Lorraine West.   As usual for us parkrunners cake afterwards was a big priority.

There was a good turnout for the evening Bexhill 5k with eight Uckfield Runners, in spite of sub ideal weather of strong winds and rain: now what I was expecting for a July evening run.  Medals were bright and summary even if the weather was not.  Seaside so had to be fish and chips afterwards but we opted for the eating in rather than the planned fish and chips on the beach.  Running from Uckfield Richard Coates 20:14, Graham West 20:18 (3rd VM55), Stewart Gasson 22:03, Jason Remington 22:41, Chris Lugg 23:35, Catherine Harker 24:22, Sam Kedwards 26:12, Michael Hill 30:14 (PB)

It was hot day for the Uckfield 10k this year on Sunday 9 July.  The event is run by Uckfield and District Lions with Uckfield Runners helping to promote the event, set it up and assisting with Marshalling.  The event starts at Uckfield Rugby Club and is mainly run throught Buxted Park over and undulating route.  Eight of our runners ran the Event, Max Williams, Andy Taylor, Graham West, Sarah Patience, Chris Lugg, Tosca Anstis, Michael Hill and Charlotte Munro.  Richard Page marked out the course and assisted with marshalling, Jo Thornton and Dayle Bryant manned the drink station whilst Sam Kedwards (assisted by Phoebe and Tess) handed out the finishers medals.

On Saturday we had a pitch on the Uckfield Big Day Out (last picture to right) to promote the club.  The pitch was manned by Graham West, Lorriane West, Tosca Anstis, Samantha Kedwards, Chris Lugg and Michael Hill at various times during the day.  We spoke to about 25 people interested in the club so hopefully we will see some new comers over the next two or three weeks.

Today was the Heathfield 10k in the morning and the club BBQ in the afternoon.  Heathfield is a Sussex Grand Prix event and a very hilly course, pretty much 5k down hill and 5k back up.  We don't let a few hills put us off so good to see 11 turn up from the club.  In the afternoon it was very pleasant day for the annual club BBQ.

The Uckfield Runners parkrunners were on tour on Saturday, with eight of our runners visiting Bedgebury Pinetum Parkrun near Goudhurst (first two pictures) as a change from our normal Parkrun at Shinewater Eastbourne.  This was a very scenic location passing a lake on the way to the start.   Following a briefing for new runners to the event but the race director Liz we set off the with an undulating route through the Pine Forest.  The route was well marked and marshalled and the surface good underfoot and the sun came out without being too hot.  The run was followed but well earned tea/coffee and cake outside the cafe by the lake.  A very enjoyable start to the weekend.  Running from Uckfield were, Graham West  21:13 (1st V55, 5th overall), Chris Lugg 26:36, Sara Patience 34:18, Charlotte Lade 37.16, Phoebe Kedwards (age 8) 38:41 (first 5k run), Samantha Kedwards 38:43, Lauren Scordilis 43:42 and Lorraine West 50:47.

Graham and Lauren were also out on Sunday for the Seaford Triple Challenge (second two pictures).  Graham ran the half marathon finishing second in 1hr 40:49 whilst Lauren completed the 30 mile cycle ride.  This was an off road evetn starting on Seaford Sea front and going up on the downs to Firle Beacon and Bo Beep.  It was thick fog at the top as you will see from the picture below, they had marked the route with blue flags, at times you could just make out the next blue flag and head towards it hoping you would then see the next blue flag: the views would have been great if you could see more than 10 metres.  It was a good event though.  On the last picture you can see Lauren in the back ground.

It is not all about running fast or hard.  To start bank holiday monday a very pleasant social run today to Woods near Buxted Park to see the Bluebells, spring is clearly here.  Tea and coffee at Freedom Leisure finished the morning run off nicely.

There was a good turnout at the Hasting half marathon today, the second Sussex Grant Prix event of the year.  The rain held off but that headwind in the last 2.5 miles along the seafront was a killer.  It is a hilly course with in particular a 4 mile climb from mile 3, and it attracts a big turnout with over 2,500 runnners.  Running from Uckfield were: Graham West 1hr 36.48 (5th M55), Richard Coates 1hr 41.44, Max Williams 1hr 43.58 (PB), Stewart Gasson 1hr 47.25, Duncon McNeill 1hr 47.48, Tara Johndon 1hr 49.34, Peter Wilkes 2hr 05.40, Christine Tait 1hr 09.04, Caley Pearce 2hr 10.22, Kathleen Gore 2hr 48.12.

Also well done to Emma Hyland and Laura Gove who ran the Reading Half marathon today.

Pett was the final race for the year. This is a hilly cource and is a mix of woodland and field.  We finished fourth securing our overall position of fourth place out of 12 teams. A great result.  Running from Uckfield today were Jamie Keddie, Lee Adams, Graham West and Catherine Harker.

Ten of our runners battled the winds on the Eastbourne half marathon.  This is the first Sussex Grand Prix of the year.  The course is mostly flat but there is pretty mean hill from 2 mile to 3.5 mile before a quicke descent to the seafront.  Seafront courses are great, generally flat and scenic but offer no protection from the wind. The full force of the wind hit you from about 11 mile to 12.5 after coming out from the marina back onto the seafront heading west running today were Richard Coates  1hr 35.06, Andy Taylor 1hr 38.36, Graham West 1hr 28.51, Max Williams 1hr 47.11 (First half marathon), Stewart Gasson 1hr 47.37, Jason Remington 1hr 52.49, Chris Lugg 1hr 58.36, Samantha Kedwards 2hrs 03.24 (PB), Sue Collett 2hrs 21.20 and Michael Hill 2hrs 40.36.

There we also a few runners out on the Eastbourne Parkrun on Saturday: Graham West 27.27, Rebecca Holden 29.42, Lindsey Griffiths 30.43, Sara Patience 30.53, Lorraine West 45.22.  Well done to Rebecca for getting under 30 minutes and Lindsey and Sara not far off it: next time maybe.  Lorraine improved by about 2 minutes from last week just missing out on her target of 45 minutes.
